The State In-Between

Born in Ohio, and raised in Karachi, Pakistan by my American mother and Pakistani father, my artistic life has always been closely tied to my personal experience of living between two cultural states.  By adopting the decorative patterns and imagery of ancient Persian Miniature painting, together with contemporary digital photography I create metaphorical cross-cultural landscapes based on composite memories of my childhood in Karachi, Pakistan. Personal recollections and psychological dramas are acted out in this environment, which is a peculiar mix of popular icons from the East and West, a reflection of one place superimposed on another.
